Gold, Silver, Platinum, Diamonds – the ladies love them all. The more they have them, the more they want. Since ancient times women like to adorn themselves using different kind of embellishments. Jewellery forms the most basic form of such embellishments. This has given rise to a billion dollar Jewellery industry. The customer base of this industry is mainly women, though men’s jewellery is substantially gaining popularity and is growing day by day.

A decade ago, only gold and silver ornaments were primarily occupied by the market. But recently, ornaments crafted in Platinum, also known as ‘White Gold’ has gained momentum because of the sheer elegance and luster, the metal has. Quite recently, jewellery made up of other items such as gemstones (Ruby, Topaz, etc.) have also gained their share in the market. The market share for this type of jewellery has been consistently increasing. This is because more and more people are opting for gemstones relevant to their sun sign to bring in good luck and prosperity in their personal and professional lives.

The concept of ‘Branded Jewellery’, sprung up in recent times, is giving added impetus to the massive jewellery industry. Jewellery brands are particularly high on customer satisfaction and trust. Jewellery brands add a promise of authenticity in ornaments and so you can be assured of the quality of the jewellery you purchase. One byproduct of the success of branded jewellery is the demand for professionally qualified jewellery designers. Because of this, several youngsters are now looking jewellery designing, which was once considered to be a family business, as a career option.

The quantity and the genre of the jewellery people wear is largely governed by their location, civilization and customs. Apart from its high monetary value, jewellery also has an emotional value attached to it in some countries. This is because, Jewellery has been considered to be a symbol of love in many civilizations and continues to find a place in each and every human relationship.
